Abstract
District heating networks are essential components of urban energy infrastructure; however, in many Eastern European cities they face high energy losses caused by pipeline aging and outdated construction solutions. Reducing these losses is crucial for improving energy efficiency, lowering emissions, and ensuring the sustainability of heating systems. This paper analyzes modern solutions for reducing heat losses, focusing on next-generation pre-insulated pipes and advanced insulation materials, through a techno-economic assessment applied to the CT Vest district heating network in Chișinău. The results indicate significant reductions in thermal energy losses, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions, demonstrating that systematic modernization represents a viable and necessary direction for district heating systems in the Republic of Moldova and other regions with similar infrastructure.
