Abstract
The VAr Dispatch Scheduler (VDS) software module, part of the national Energy Management System (EMS) platform, provides the active support needed by the operators to automatically maintain the voltage of the power grid in the optimal operating parameters, to increase the transmission capacity of the grid sections and to reduce their own technological consumption. Also, by planning the optimal actuation of the transformer taps, SVCs (Static VAr Compensators), and STATCOMs, capacitor banks and compensation reactors, the number of actions is minimized, and the equipment service life is increased. In addition, following the occurrence of contingencies, the voltage is automatically adjusted within the preestablished operating limits. So, VDS reduces human error and improves the voltage quality of the electricity transmission system. At Transelectrica’s level, the Romanian TSO, it is intended to be implemented such a module either by modernizing the existing EMS/SCADA application or by creating an independent calculus module. The importance of VDS is mentioned by reducing the technical power losses of transmission system, by choosing the best control option for the Q-U control equipment in the national energy system. So far, no such system has been implemented in Romania and the purpose of the article is to present the importance and method of operation of this instrument.
